The instructor works with students individually to create works of art in any medium (watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, or pen and ink), any subject and any style. Beginners get step-by-step instruction and advanced students have studio space on a weekly basis with the guidance of a professional artist.

FIGURATIVE PAINTING & DRAWING

This is an intense and exciting class where the students paint side-by-side with the instructor, painting or drawing beautiful and interesting themed, clothed models. There will be one pose for 3.5 hours.

ACRYLICS AND WATERCOLOR
Wednesdays in October, November 6:00-8:00 PM
This class will focus on working mainly from studio installations. Using master artists as inspiration, students will experiment with many different acrylic/watercolor techniques and media (glass bead or gel and fiber, for example). Using various methods and approaches, students will be encouraged to move their work on from a personal baseline to develop their own individual style and interests.

By offering both drawing and painting, the student will learn that the two are both related, yet distinctly differnt languages. Life and arrangements of materials will be the subject matter rather than photos. Prepared still lifes, portraits, or objects the student brings will be drawn or painted from life. Emphasis will be placed on individual attention from the instructor.

FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING

This course will teach students the basics of recognizing shapes, using line, shading, forms and working with perspective. Using a variety of media, students will work on portraits, landscapes, still lifes and other subjects that interest individual students. All skill levels of students are welcome. Personal attention will be given to each student. Materials to bring: drawing board, drawing paper, charcoal (or other media ).

NATURE DRAWING PROGRAM
Friday, September 25 1:00-4:00 PM and

This will be a relaxed, yet intensive drawing class working directly from nature. We’ll sketch the intimate landscapes of trees, rocks, and plants in a natural way; exploring line, texture and light in graphite pencil as well as pen and ink. We’ll work plein air in Lions Park, weather permitting. In case of rain there will be natural materials brought inside for everyone to sketch.

ORIENTAL BRUSHWORK: BIRDS, BLOSSOMS AND BUGS

Students will learn the techniques used in Chinese painting to create birds of various sizes, blooming autumn flowers, and the insects that visit them. Students will create traditional and contemporary styles of Chinese brushwork using ink and watercolor on rice paper.

ALL MEDIA FIGURE STUDIO

This studio session focuses on drawing or painting from a live model using natural light. It may include occasional portrait sessions clothed and nude. Students provide their own materials. This class is for the serious adult or age 17 (with parent permission).

DRAWING - TEEN COLLEGE PREPARATION

This course is a college level drawing class designed for motivated high school teens who want to work on building their eye, technical skills and improve their college portfolio. Students will focus on building composition and technical skills through still lifes, figure drawing, and critiques.

INTRODUCTION TO CALLIGRAPHY

Class will not meet October 6th & 13th
Students will be exposed to the vast world of hand lettering. We will examine historical letter forms and trace their evolution to the contemporary and computer world. Students will be introduced to the broad-edged pen. From thick to thin, we will cover the basics of the italic alphabet. In addition, such topics as color and layout will be covered. A materials fee will be collected by the instructor.
