INTRODUCTION TO STONE CARVING - ALABASTER

Introduction to stone carving will teach you all the basic skills needed to get started in carving stone. Students will learn to carve alabaster pieces. Emphasis will be on: safety, tools, carving procedures, finishing techniques and abstracting sculptural form. Master Sculptors: Brancusi, Moore, Arp and Hepworth will be discussed. Students will be given eye protection and ear protection for use in the class. Sign up early to pre order the alabaster (sold separately). A list of tools needed will be available at the Firehouse Art Center.
